When you hear the word dance, what do you think of? Some people might be taken back to junior high, where at a Hollywood-themed party they had their first slow dance, others might go the pop culture route, remembering Elaine Benes’ famous party jig. At Bombay Jam, when we hear the word dance we think of the colorful, bright sets of Bollywood films, and the many vibrant garments swaying enthusiastically to infectious music.
Inspired by this play between music and movement, Bombay Jam was born into a dance exercise class that offers participants an immersive, exciting experience. Dancing is more than frolicking about, it’s self-expression in its truest form.
Who are We?
We are a group of trained choreographers, Bollywood dancers and certified fitness instructors. In 2011 we launched Bombay Jam from the Bay Area with a the hope of touching the uninspired, and generating a wide base of dance fitness fanatics around the country. We’ve comprised our dance fitness curriculum of Bollywood music and Top 40 hits to make for an addicting, lively, unforgettable exercise experience. Before establishing our company, some of the things we consistently heard as trainers was that dance exercise classes were repetitive and lacked the essential element of fun. We decided to change all that.
But a dance exercise class is also supposed to be as stimulating as it is challenging. We recognized that this need in the group training exercise community was not sufficiently being met. Who wants to go to a class if they believe their needs are not being met? When people are engaged and having a good time while exercising, they’re more likely to push themselves and achieve results. No longer equating exercise with work, they unleash a whole new level of fitness potential.
What We Do
Each dance exercise class offered at Bombay Jam provides its own unique mixture of cardio and fat burning total-body workouts through a variety of engaging dance moves. Our hour-long routines focus on helping you sculpt and tone long, lean muscle. But most important, we recognize that no two students are the same, and we don’t think dance exercise classes should be either.
We can’t say for sure how each class goes, because it’s entirely dependent on the Bombay Jam instructor you have. While we provide our instructors with dance training and class curriculum, we also give them the liberty to structure their classes how they see fit. Other dance exercise classes often have a set agenda that they follow repeatedly, regardless of the experience their students have.
